April 5, 2020 – Palm Sunday

“Hosanna! Save us!”

Recorded service for April 5, 2020. The video is a playlist. It will play continuously, or you can choose the particular segment by clicking the playlist icon.

Written Prayer and Sermon

We are beginning Holy Week, the week where we intentionally remember the difficult road of Jesus to the cross, and the challenging message that threatened the powerful enough to seek to crucify him. Yet following the darkness of that week, we celebrate Easter, the story of Jesus’ resurrection and enduring power to redeem the worst darkness.

This year will be a Holy Week like no other, as we are forced to stay home out of precaution for the spread of the coronavirus. We need our spiritual practices for this time like never before, even though we cannot meet in person like other years.

During Holy Week, we encourage households to consider trying out the ideas from Holy Week at Home, in order to celebrate Holy Week, and Maundy Thursday at home. This resource is by Talashia Keim Yoder from the Building Faith website.

Catching up

Pastor Lois and I took time yesterday to record a video talking about the section of the book of Job that would have been the theme for our service that was cancelled March 15. Pastor Lois had planned to preach that day.

Job and his friends spend 36 chapters arguing over why Job had so many troubles! Lois condensed this to short passages: Click here for a PDF handout.

Thanks for taking the time to listen. We hope this will “fill the gap” a little as we continue with two more reflections on Job’s story during the next two weeks. You may need to turn the volume up. This is a “lower-tech” try, but send us feedback about what you think of this format.
